Nicolas Travolta just hopped into a Volvo 850 with a car phone.

Among 90's NIC Cage action movies, This or ConAir or The Rock? YOU MUST CHOOSE. THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE.

I am 3 margs deep, will it hold my interest or should I watch Doug DeMuro

Rock, hands down. Con Air was bad and Faceoff was just horrible.
Difficulty: I’m judging them by when they were new, which is usually more generous than hindsight.
The Rock is STILL a good action flick.

I still really like ConAir but Rock wins because of the Sean Connery and the Villain.

Why?

Good question. It’s fairly compelling so far, but I’m only 40 minutes in and it’s nearly 140 fucking minutes long. So maybe get your quirks in.

Ed Harris? Yeah, he’s pretty solid in just about everything.

I find amusement in bad/campy movies, and this is one of the few famous ones I haven’t actually seen.

How much Nic Cage irreverent weirdness, Travolta Creepiness and Jet Li Slow motion action scenes can you tolerate?

Yeah this is the real question

Speaking of which. I watched Pacific Rim 2 yesterday
Glad I didn’t spend my money on movie tickets and concessions for this. And this despite liking the first one a lot.

Okay, I’ll allow it, but this is a really, really bad movie. I actually saw it I the theater when it came out. It was my wife’s idea.
![]() 05/05/2018 at 23:46 |

And if you are like me you would not remind wife of that one time she wanted to see this movie.

They’re all bad. Sean Connery was a lovely beacon in The Rock, but it still wasn’t that great.

I saw it in the theater and nearly asked for my money back. Rim 1 was so much better.

Who’s career has fared the best since their peak? I want to say Cage is slightly viewed higher today than Travolta, but I honestly can’t remember the last movie either one of them was in.

im sittin here in the basement away from alergies typing up a best of for overland and watching Apollo 13 as it was meant to be watched, from a laserdisc to a CRT monitor.

Cage I guess, but not in a good way. The most notable thing Travolta has done since was Hairspray, while Cage continues to star in more bizarre films.

Nicholas Cage has just become more discerning in the roles he chooses as he’s matured professionally. These days, if he’s doing a movie, it has to fit a couple criteria; namely, that the actors get paid, and that filming happens during a period when his schedule is open.

No, he’s a little pickier than that.
![]() 05/06/2018 at 01:39 |

He’s perhaps becoming a bit more discerning because he finally has a bit of money. He blew $150m and suddenly found himself mostly broke. Which means that he had to take any role they threw at him, and he ended up making some pretty bad movies.

I got my money’s worth in this scene alone. Of course, I haven’t paid money to see it.
Classic campy/bad John Woo—this, and Mission: Impossible 2 .
